Although this year audiences will return to the Royal Albert Hall, no season tickets for promenaders will be available. This means we will have far less certainty as to which trustees and collectors will be able to attend a given Prom, so the trustees have decided to again concentrate our collecting efforts on our two core charities:
Help Musicians (Registered charity No. 228089)
CLIC Sargent (Registered charity No. 1107328)
We will also run the collection online again. Depending how easy the online booking system for promming tickets proves to be to use in practice, we may be able to return to bucket collections later in the season.
Help Musicians
This year our support for Help Musicians will go to their COVID-19 Hardship Fund. Most musicians get most of their work on a freelance basis, which has almost entirely dried up. Many have found that they do not qualify for the government support schemes, so have had to apply for Universal Credit or other benefits which may still leave them in considerable financial difficulties.

CLIC Sargent
With CLIC Sargent we will continue to fund their music therapy work with children and young people with cancer (and their families). Life with cancer is hard enough in normal times, but of course there are inevitably many more worries at the moment, and this is vital support to help those receiving treatment for cancer. Unfortunately this work had to be suspended in the early part of the pandemic, but these donations will help remobilise the service, potentially moving to online delivery, depending on what restrictions remain in place within hospitals.

Other ways to donate
Cheque
Please send cheques, payable to Promenaders’ Musical Charities, to our Treasurer:
Andrew Mills 36 Cranleigh Road Merton Park London SW19 3LU
CAF Cheque
If you have a Charities Aid Foundation account, and normally make donations by CAF cheque, please make them payable to Help Musicians and/or CLIC Sargent (as we are not a registered charity in our own right) and send them to our Treasurer (details above).
Other charities and future collections
In recent years we have supported three additional charities each season beyond the two core charities. In 2020 we had just carried out the shortlisting exercise when lockdown began. We rolled the shortlisted charities’ applications over to 2021, assuming that they were still looking for funding for the relevant projects. We now anticipate similarly rolling over these applications to 2022. While there is obviously still some uncertainty as to how the situation will develop, this means that it is unlikely that the trustees will be seeking further applications for support from the 2022 Season collection.
